This prints shows the view of the winding flower-rich chalk grassland of the mouth of the Cuckmere River. The bus no. 12 takes you along the Coast from Brighton to Eastbourne. Just before crossing Cuckmere River it winds up over the chalky hills where this view is revealed. The Cuckmere Valley has inspired many other artists such as Eric Ravilious. This view shows the Coastguards Cottages and a glimpse of the beginning of the Seven Sisters cliffs.
This print belongs to a tonal collection named ‘Eventide’. It is inspired by a late evening sea swim by the West Pier in Brighton. The sea was still like a mirror and the hues of soft pink surrounded the scene like candy floss. The word eventide means evening in archaic English.
