My Studio Archives of Black Ink Monochrome Drawings

To create my prints I first create ink what I call ‘base ink drawings’. Here I display some of them. They conform the backbones and structures of my prints. I draw with the mentality of a printmaker, treating these as plates. Instead of creating analogue prints, I scan the drawings and add colour digitally.

As an architect, it was often my task to create colourful, vibrant, suggestive images for competitions, clients, planners and more. I’ve explored traditional printing methods — lithography, collographs, screen printing, lino and others — to learn tricks of the trade that feed into my practice.

These drawings are often made on creased market paper. I love the waxy, wafer-thin quality of it — easy to store, creased. I have thousands of them in my studio. I love getting them out — so come and visit if you’re interested.
