Print description
In the Summer of 2016 I visited with my friends Scarlett and Jake The Booth Museum of Natural History in Brighton. The three of us are passionate artists. I sat on the carpet to draw in pen the skulls of the Baby Oran Gutan and the head of the Hippopotamus.
Later on at the studio I inked these drawings and wondered what could I add to make them more playful. It is then that I thought of these exhibits at night, when there is no one there, all those long hours. In my imagination I saw the bay Orangutan Wondering around the rooms of the building playing with a model toy of the museum. The result was an enchanted skeleton of a baby Orangutan holding in his bony hand a toy model of The Booth Museum. A meaningful reflection on the endeavours of the Victorian Scientists looking for answers in the natural World and the environment that also relates to the Victorian phantasmagoria and the chilling past-time of deciphering the supernatural.
