A group show that radiates an energy of optimism and colour, where each one of us has brought our unique expression and creative voice. Studio Greenhouse is a Creative Cooperative space operating in Brighton North Laines, the studio prides itself on a space that houses a variety of Creative practices. From Painting, Printmaking, Graphic design, Illustration, Architecture, Film/TV and Fashion.
I have been a member of Studio Greenhouse for nearly ten years. To mark this milestone, I have created a series of very personal prints that form an intimate record of my life. These prints depict where I live, some friends and colleagues, and my personal and professional spaces, with my figure populating the scenes. When I look at this new work, I feel both mentally and physically nude. As Kenneth Clark rightly said, nude is not the same as bare; nude, in this case, means clothed in my own skin.
As some of you know, I have been running life drawing sessions at the County Arts Club for many years. A couple of months ago, we had a discussion among all the artists in my group about the validity and relevance of self-portraiture. Many artists are happy to draw models week after week but feel themselves unworthy of being the subject of their own art.So somehow, this exercise is an invitation to embrace reflection, accept who you are and show it!
