‘London Dragons over Thames River by Tower Bridge’

Panoramic view of the London River Thames through Tower Bridge. Including the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the future former City Hall building with two joyful dragons in the sky.

I create each print out of my own hand drawn ink drawings that I colour digitally. I print my design using fine art paper and archival inks, and release each print as part of a limited edition of 100 for the standard sizes 0,A1, A2, A3 or A4. Each print has my signature and edition number.

Photograph of the base drawings for the art print. I draw these on A3 sheets of specialised marker paper with calligraphic brushes, fine-line ink pens, sponges, sand paper and other materials. The medium is ink and sometimes watercolour and charcoal. I scanned these to form the main line work and patterns in the final print.
The inspiration for the creation of my dragons looks towards the East again at South Asian dragons around 1244 from the Southern Song dynasty dragons by artist Chen Rong. He painted a paper roll called  ‘Nine Dragons’. It is a handscroll painting that depicts the apparitions of dragons soaring amidst clouds, mists, whirlpools, rocky mountains and fire, the painting refers to the dynamic forces of nature in Daoism. The depicted dragons are associated with nine sons of the Dragon King, while the number nine itself is considered auspicious in Chinese astrology and folk beliefs.

The River Thames in London is a window to British history. This view is a reflects the different historic periods that have shaped London. In the distance Canary Wharf with the HSBC Building, One Canada Square, the Newfoundland Building and the The Wardian, West Tower. And on the South Bank of the River, Anchor Brewhouse Horselydown, Butler’s Wharf West and City Hall along the Thames River Bank.
