Walking Miss Edi the Tortoise at Brunswick Square Gardens by the Sea

Print description

An invitation to live in the slow lane, because it’s when you go slow that you can truly notice the world and others, allowing for reflection and a more meaningful life. Watch the sunset-kissed top floors of the bow-fronted terraced houses, the cumulus clouds, and the elegant Mediterranean pine trees, and meet Miss Ide, tortoise. I have encountered her a couple of times in Brunswick Square, Brighton, where we are both residents.

Print details

I created this print from my original ink drawings to which I apply colour digitally. Printed on fine art paper using archival inks. I issue the formats A0, A1 & A2,A3 and A4  as limited editions of 100 where I individually sign and number each print.

Brunswick Square Gardens

Completed in 1842 this area was developed to the designs of Charles Busby. Previously forming part of the Wick Estate and used for brick manufacture, the area was developed to the designs of Charles Busby. Construction began in 1825 and was completed by 1842. The gardens were provided for the residents of the surrounding houses. Houses that have sought after sea-views provided by typically Brighton bow fronted houses.

The Regency Town House

The Regency Town House is a grade 1 listed terraced property c. 1820s, built as a part of architect Charles Busby’s ‘Brunswick Town’ estate.

Today, the House is being developed as a museum and heritage centre with a focus on the architecture and social history of Brighton & Hove between the 1780s and 1840s.

The main building at 13 Brunswick Square and its Basement Annexe a few doors away at number 10 are being restored by specialists and a team of volunteers.

The house is often open to the public and run fund-raising events, including supper clubs, performances, readings and recitals. Hosting often too art and photography exhibitions and events such as readings, book launches, and small functions.

Photograph of the base drawings for the art print. I draw these on A3 sheets of specialised marker paper with calligraphic brushes, fine-line ink pens, sponges, sand paper and other materials. The medium is ink ,watercolour and charcoal. I scanned these to form the main line work and patterns in the final print.
