A cat sleeps in the shade on the steps of Sant’Elmo Castle above San Martino, overlooking the Bay of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius on the horizon.
In April 2026, I visited Naples. I have been there on a few occasions in the past, but this time I set myself the task of creating, if possible, a set of art prints inspired by the light and history of this extraordinary place.
The Bay of Naples has been depicted by so many artists over the centuries, with a fascination mainly focused on Vesuvius. My approach is a contemporary take on the experience of the visitor or tourist, interested in all aspects of the city: the street cats, the architecture and the geography, all depicted with the vibrancy of the southern Mediterranean sun and sea.
Print details
To create this print, I begin by making individual drawings in ink, which I then bring together to form the final composition. I scan these original drawings and digitally add colour. The finished design exists solely in digital form and is printed using archival inks on fine art paper. I release the design as a limited-edition print, available in standard ‘A’ sizes, ranging from A0 (84.1 × 118.9 cm) to A4 (21 × 29.7 cm).
