Glyndebourne Picnic Interval: print series

One of the most charming traditions in the English summer is the long interval at Glyndebourne, when opera-goers spill out onto the lawns for a picnic. Everyone brings their own setup—anything from a quick sandwich and thermos to full tables with candelabras, champagne, and strawberries. For me, it’s all about the light, the gentle rustle of formalwear on grass, and the way the whole scene feels like a painting. I had my sketchbook with me, of course—trying to catch those fleeting moments of elegance, humour, and calm before Act II.
