The Palace Pier stands like a calm sentinel over the water, its long frame reaching gracefully into the sea. On this still day, the surface is so smooth it mirrors the sky—creating the sense of another Brighton hidden just beneath the waves.

The colour carries the mood: soft blues of sea and sky, with gentle amber tones scattered across the pebbles like fragments of sunlight. The clouds drift slowly, as if pausing to take in the view themselves.

This was one of my early prints, and I’ve revisited it many times since, adding new details as both the city and my practice have evolved. What I love about Brighton is how it keeps changing while staying unmistakably itself—still a place of light, reflection, and seaside calm.

A day out in Brighton

I love revisiting my early prints. This particular one was among my first, and I’ve since added many more details. As the city evolves, so do my artworks—now, we even have the new Shelter Hall

A Day Out in Brighton by the Sea: After arriving at the train station, stop for a refreshment while enjoying sea views from the balcony of the new Shelter Hall. Then, stroll past shops and art galleries like Atelier the Sea. Visit the Brighton Fishing Museum, have fun on the Carousel, and relax by the sea on one of Brighton’s iconic striped deck chairs. Finally, end your day on the deck of Brighton Palace Pier, commonly known as Brighton Pier. This wonderful structure opened its gates in 1899 and remains the only pier in operation in Brighton.
