Description

The Seafront at Kemptown Brighton Pebble Beach

View of Brighton and Hove from the raised cliff of Kemptown at Marine Parade. The Seafront at Kemptown is a distinctive stretch of Brighton’s famous pebble beach, lined with colourful beach huts and Marine Parade’s historic architecture and sweeping views across the English Channel.

To create this print, I start by crafting individual drawings in ink, which collectively form a collage comprising the final piece. I scan my drawings and digitally add colour. The original design solely exists in digital format, and I print it using archival inks and paper. I then release my design as a limited edition print, available in standard ‘A’ sizes, ranging from A0 (84.1 cm x 118.9 cm) to A4 (21 x 29.7 cm).

Kemptown

Kemptown stands high on a cliff  before it drops into Madeira Drive. Marine Parade has typical bow fronted terraced houses. Half way through Marine Parade stands the Victorian Lift  which is beautifully designed in Chinoiserie style whit dragon scales and mythological dolphins on its roof.

Past Kemptown, the unmissable 1960’s Sussex Heights define the outline of the city. Next stands the contemporary British airways I-360 whilst the historic Brighton Palace Pier makes its way on the sea.  The landscape continues in the distance with Shoreham Scottish Power Thermal Station, two wind turbines and the Shoreham industrial Harbour. Worthing and even surprisingly Worthing Pier appear as the last elements touching the horizon.

Kemptown Art Association

Between 2016 and 2018 I was fortunate to live in Arundel Terrace in Kemptown. Remarkably with the keys of the flat I was renting also came the keys to Sussex Square’s private gardens which are a jewel among the gardens of Brighton and Hove. At that time I joined the Kemptown art association of which I am still a proud member.

Photograph of the base drawings for the art print. I draw these on A3 sheets of specialised marker paper with calligraphic brushes, fine-line ink pens, sponges, sand paper and other materials. The medium is watercolour, ink and charcoal. I scanned these to form the main line work and patterns in the final print.
