Royal Pavilion Dragons Gold Chinoiserie

Print description

This print celebrates freedom of movement. In a straightforward metaphor, I set a cluster of dragons free from their royal residence, the Royal Pavilion, where they usually appear as dazzling chandeliers, delicate wallpaper patterns and exquisite ceramics. Here, they escape the interiors of the palace and fly joyfully into the sky.

In Asian culture, dragons symbolise prosperity and good fortune. They are generous mythical beings and often appear in the most refined and elevated forms of art and decoration.

Chinoiserie refers to the European decorative style of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that incorporates historic Asian motifs.

Digital pigment print from original ink drawings. Printed on fine art paper using archival inks. Available in sizes A0,A1, A2, A3 or A4 as limited editions of 100. Each print is individually signed and numbered.

Above is a photograph of my base ink drawings for the art print. I draw these on A3 sheets of specialised marker paper with calligraphic brushes, fine-line ink pens, sponges, sand paper and other materials. The medium is watercolour, ink and charcoal. I scanned these to form the main line work and patterns in the final print.
