Pigeons Song Pavilion Gardens Brighton

Print description

My studio is next to Pavilion Gardens, I can actually see the domes from my window. It is inevitable that from time to time, this subject comes to my drawing board. So this print depicts a very much love scene in Brighton at Royal Pavilion Gardens, along the path that connects New Road with the Pavilion next to Pavilion Garden Café, a pigeon stands on the railings, probably waiting to be fed. In the background behind the trees are the Brighton Dome and the Royal Brighton Pavilion

Print details

I created this print from my original ink drawings to which I apply colour digitally. Printed on fine art paper using archival inks. From a limited edition of 100. I individually sign and number each print. This print is available in three sizes.

Photograph of print base drawings. I make these formats with calligraphic brushes, fine-line markers, and other tools. In watercolour, ink and charcoal and on separate sheets of A3 size marker paper. These are scanned and form the main line work and patterns in the final print.

I completed the linework of this print in July 2023. Though this is a project I had for years. At Pavilion Gardens the pigeons are such a distinctive happy presence, I always wanted to capture this. They probably are creating problems in the roofs of the historic buildings that are in this area, though at the same time, when I think of my time spent in India, it always struck me the abundance of natural life in the cities living among people. Since then I always thought that we need to promote this aspect, we need to surround ourselves with natural life as much as possible in our built environments.
