Architectural Panoramic Prints
In the spring of 2020 I completed a collection of three prints that depicts three outstanding examples of Modernist and Art Deco buildings in the South Coast of England. They are from a period when new ideas and technologies sprung and shaped a new World.
I am most interested to portray these buildings in their surroundings, in this case, next to the sea, by a promenade walk or in proximity to the natural formations of the chalk cliffs of the South coast.
The process of creation one of my prints starts with site visits to familiarise with the building and the views, parallel to this process I carry out a research of the architects and period. I work from my own photographs, from which I create line ink drawings. Later I scan these drawings and I add colour digitally. Finally I print them on art paper using archival inks, issued as limited edition art prints.
Three panoramic prints featuring Modernist and Art Deco buildings
This first print tittled ‘Morning Walk Sea Promenade Brighton and Hove Pebble Beach’ features Embassy Court building. I moved to Brighton in 2004 and I often visit Hove Lawns where this building is. This is a place where the town meets very much showing good old fashion promenading habits.
The second print tittled ‘Morning Swim Saltdean Lido by the Sea’ features the Saltdean in Lido. The architect R.W.H. Jones designed the Saltdean Lido in Art Deco style. English Heritage has it listed as Grade II*. I am passionate about swimming and drawing, combining both gives me great joy. My panoramic shows the Lido, Saldean Town and the cliffs by the sea.
The third and last print tittled ‘De la Warr Pavilion Bexhill on Sea Pebble Beach’ features the De la Warr Pavilion, known as the first modernist building in Britain, it was designed by the architects Erich Mendelsohn and Serge Chermayeff.
